What I'm All About

Hello, Angels!

I hope you are having a wonderful splendiferous day, for today marks the inaugural blog post for this website! Whooooaaaaaa

There is no better way to start a blog than with a little chat about who I am and what I plan to do with you here. For starters, my name is Sa'Mantha SayTen. Not your average name but don't worry, its all very purposeful and quite fun.

You see, what started out as a stupid pun Sa-MAN-tha, a joke emphasizing my MAB (Male at Birth) status, molded itself into a cute alliteration. And the name Samantha Satan found its way into a poorly written play called The Ten/Ten Twins, a flop in my undergraduate years as a Writing Arts Major. However, the character was tapping its foot as it rested on the back wall of my mind, and her beat begged, "Hello, aren't you going to use me again?"

And so I did. I dressed up as Samantha Satan (sometimes spelled Seyten for some reason) at my very first drag pageant. Now, it was not an actual pageant. It was a cheap show where the winner won 200 bucks at the end of the night. But tell you what, I would have been damned if I hadn't walked away with that money. And so I did and I took home a tiara and a bouquet of flowers too.

Winning as Sam justified her looming presence and it was clear that she needed a way out of my head and into the real world. So I used the skills I was learning as a writing student (with many interests including theater, photography and art) and came up with a plan. 

Step 1: Give Sam a history. Figure out who she is and what she is doing in the modern world. She needs a story.

Step 2: Figure out her look, her aesthetic. Who paved the way for Sam's looks?

Step 3: Get your makeup skills together, learn how to take a picture, maybe a video and produce this puppy to the ground. 

I'm glad to say that I am on my way to step 3 and this blog is only one rung of that ladder.  So then, my plan - now that I have strung you along this far - is to make you a little promise, and here it is:

I promise to create content that is interesting, relevant, and either useful or entertaining, hopefully both. Along the way you will learn who Sa'Mantha SayTen is, who the mind behind the mask is, and learn a bit about drag culture, LGBTQIA+ interests and issues, and a world of magic, mystery and mayhem.  

Follow me along this journey. It'll be quite the ride.
